The month of June has been kind for fishermen and fisherwomen! With water temps in the low to mid 60’s most of the month, and overcast “fishing” weather, Lake Waconia has been producing some nice sunfish, crappies, bass and northern pike, with occasional good walleye action early morning or late evening. Sunfish are still spawning shallow and on inside weed lines. A mixed bag of everything has bit on the north side of Coney Island. It’s been one of the best spots for nice crappies. Keepers were around 10+ inches, with some of the bigger ones being in the 12-to-15-inch range. Last week we had a grandfather rent a pontoon from us and take his grandchildren out for panfish. While he was helping them bait the hooks and take fish off, he watched his big bobber with a sucker minnow go down twice! He caught a 40 and 33 inch northern with a plain hook and sucker minnow. We have had numerous other northern pike reports with all sizes of fish caught across the lake. Those going for sunfish notice they aren’t fussy. Wax worms, crawlers and leeches all are getting them to bite. Bass haven’t been too picky either when it comes to live bait. It has been good out from Peterson’s Creek (aka the Carp Trap) on the NW side or on reefs like North Reef, Pillsbury Reef and Cemetery Reef in the weeds or just off the weed line.

With things heating up this weekend, we still have a few openings for pontoon rentals! Cool off on the lake and reserve a pontoon with us by calling (952) 442-2096. They are equipped with swim ladders. With air temps predicted in the low 90’s, we expect water temps to warm into the mid-to-upper 70’s, so it will be great swimming weather!

As we mentioned on yesterday’s post, the Lake Waconia Band Festival is happening at 6 pm tomorrow (6/21). After 3 pm things will get trickier to get to us as parking restrictions begin at 3 and downtown streets get closed by 5 pm. Access to the lake and Lake Street will be limited only to Birch Street (by the cemetery). So, coming from Highway 5, turn right onto Birch Street, come down the steep hill and follow Lake Street past Lola’s to get to us.

We’ll see you on the lake!
