We just got off Lake Waconia to get an ice update. Yesterday
was pretty wet on the roads and around the houses. Last night got cold enough to
freeze most of it up nicely. Today was supposed to get into the upper 30’s, but
at about 2pm it’s still under freezing and overcast. Tonight and tomorrow are
supposed to be pretty breezy. Because a
lot of the water on the ice did freeze last night, we are not as concerned
about high winds causing a swirl effect down open holes. However, we don’t think it’s a bad idea to
check on your fish house if you have a permanent on the ice to make sure you
like what you see.
The roads are pretty bumpy and still have some wet spots, but
overall holding up well. We drilled some test holes, and haven’t noticed much
difference in thickness compared to about 1 week ago. All in all, considering the warmth of this
past week, the lake is in great shape!
